Sylvia Armstrong Impressionistic Surrounding Series, ‘Shrinking Ice Field’
A pleasant memory of seeing the Athabasca Glacier in Canada triggered this painting. Due to global warming this ice field recedes two to three meters every year, no matter how much extra snow there is. I tried to capture the ruggedness of the Rocky Mountains contrasted with the snow and ice through several layers of colors and texture created with bold palette knife strokes.
